'Kinder-Jazz'

'Kinder-Jazz'

Kinder-Jazz evolved through an eighteen-month residency of Sunday Afternoon Jazz at Boomers on The Beach, Glenelg.

Inspired by the painfully slow construction of the playground, out of bounds, Mary Trees endeavoured to keep the kids in the room.

This residency became the seed for Adelaide Fringe Festival Production, The Grand ‘Kinder-Jazz’ Time Machine.

The production has now been adapted to a five week music enrichment program. ‘Kinder-Jazz’ is available to pre-schools and primary schools and is accompanied by a Teacher Resource Kit. Please direct inquiries and school bookings to mt@musicalchairs.net.au

The task of re-appropriating jazz for kids, was superfluously seamless.

Jazz music is rich in bright imagery, catchy melodies, fantastic rhythm and a range of stories appropriate for their age. Each song evolved to include audience participation – actions, sing-along and home-made instruments. The kids became part of the band.
